Student Life

Where students discover their strengths, build confidence, and find belonging beyond the classroom.

STUDENT LIFE AT GAYNOR

Where Growth, Passion, and Community Come Alive.

At Stephen Gaynor School, we know that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Students thrive when they’re encouraged to explore their interests, stretch their skills, and connect with peers in meaningful ways. Our Student Life programs enrich every stage of the Gaynor experience—supporting academic success, building confidence, and helping students discover joy in new challenges.

STUDENT SUPPORT

Designed for How
Our Students Learn.

Our Student Life offerings are thoughtfully designed to complement classroom learning and reflect what we know about how bright students with language-based learning differences learn best. Through experiences like collaborative projects, team sports, creative expression, and exploratory play, students build skills that support success in school—and in life.

Guidance Built Right In

Across all programs, Gaynor educators and specialists bring a deep understanding of student needs, integrating guidance in executive function, self-regulation, and interpersonal skills. These experiences help students develop confidence, empathy, leadership, and a sense of belonging in a community that celebrates each child’s unique strengths.
Student Life at Gaynor isn’t just about fun and enrichment, it’s about helping students become confident, curious, and capable learners who are ready for whatever comes next.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Extending Our Impact Beyond Gaynor.

Stephen Gaynor School has a long history of active community engagement. We believe it is essential to help students become caring, responsible citizens through educational experiences embedded in the curriculum and through hands-on service opportunities. These experiences allow students to understand the impact of giving back and to experience the meaningful rewards of helping others.
Throughout the year, students across all Divisions have opportunities to participate in community service. Each November, the Gaynor community collects canned food and dry goods to help local families enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. Each spring, students donate gently used books through Project Cicero, supporting classroom and school libraries in under-resourced New York City public schools.

Gaynor’s Day of Service brings together students, faculty and staff, families, and alumni for a shared day of service supporting a designated nonprofit organization.

Students in the Lower Division may participate in a formal community service experience through the Yellow Cluster’s community service club. As students progress into the Intermediate and Upper Divisions, they engage in a broader range of service opportunities through electives and project-based learning, building awareness, empathy, and a growing sense of civic responsibility.
